Karolina Księżarczyk presented her results on "Chemical modification of phage stabilization" during The 2nd Asian Symposium on Cutting-edge Biotechnology and Chemistry (2nd ASCBC), which took place in Kitakyushu, Japan, from 5th to 6th of December 2019.


Karolina is currently working in Professor Takenaka group at Department of Applied Chemistry, Kyushu Institute of Technology, Japan within 3 months internship.

Sylwia Karoń was in Paris from 14th to 25th of November. She was a part of “Athens” programme. This is exchange programme for students of top technical universities. Sylwia took a course in “Drug strategies”, which was held by Chimie ParisTech – one of six ParisTech Engineering Schools.

We are pleased to inform, that method developed by us which allow for safe storage of viruses over prolonged time was awarded the bronze medal at International Warsaw Invention Show 2019 (14-16.10.2019).


The title of the invention was: The method of surface modification of polymer vessels for storing virus suspensions ensuring stability of the titers of these suspensions, the use of such vessels for storing virus suspensions and the method of storage of virus suspensions ensuring the stability of the titers of these suspensions.

Łukasz Richter attended 10th International Conference on Advanced Vibrational Spectroscopy, which was held in Auckland (New Zealand) from 7-12 July 2019. Łukasz had oral presentation in “Surface spectroscopy, plasmonics, SERS & SEIRA” Session.


ICAVS is one of the biggest conference focused on vibrational spectroscopy, organized every two years. This year it brought up to 300 chemists, physicists and biologists working in the field of the vibrational spectroscopy.

Patrycja Tworzydło, Eng. and Katarzyna Bury, Eng. joined our team for summer internships. They came to Warsaw from Cracow, where they study at Cracow University of Technology.

Summer is the best time for internships! Mateusz Wójcik spent the last two weeks in our research group. Mateusz is a high school student and finalist of the Polish National Chemistry Olympiad.

He cooperate with MSc Eng. Karolina Paszkowska and MSc Karolina Księżarczyk. The research concerned the study of populations of viruses and bacteria and their survival at high temperatures.

Karolina Paszkowska was awarded for her master thesis within XII competition of Polish Society of Biomedical Engineering. Karolina worked on "Production and investigation of bioactive peptide coatings". The thesis was defended at Warsaw University of Technology (Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering). Beata Butruk-Raszeja, PhD Eng., was supervisor and Aleksandra Kuźmińska, MSc Eng., was auxilary supervisor. Congrats!

Zosia Dziekan is one of the youngest student who co-authored scientific paper. She is a first year student at Warsaw University and simultaneously doing research on thinking materials in our group.

From 23rd to 27th of January we hosted Dr David Martínez Martín from ETH Zurich. David gave extraordinary lecture as a part of Dream Chemistry lecture series. He presented his work on measuring a mass of single cell. It was a pleasure and we are looking to meet David in near future!

On Friday, 21st of September 2018, we hosted Professor Shigeori Takenaka from Kyushu Institute of Technology, Japan. Professor Takenaka visited labs within IPC PAS and gave a plenary talk entitled: "Detection of tetraplex DNA and detection by tetraplex DNA".

 

During the visit we came up with common scientific project! We are eager to see the outcomes!

Jan Paczesny, PhD, attended one of the biggest conference on materials science. European Materials Research Society 2018 Fall meeting was held in Warsaw from 17th to 20th of September. Janek presented poster related to work on bacteriophages.

 Kinga Matuła completed a second edition of "Master and student - Nanoworld" program (11.03-08.04.17) for children as part of Children's University. Krzysztof Bielec was helping Kinga during each session and together with Łukasz Richter were experts who evaluated student's projects during last formal meeting with parents.

Children designed new antibacterial materials based on gold nanoparticles with application in medicine and cosmetics.

Lukasz Richter is a visiting scientist in Professor Carlos Drummond group in Bordeaux, France. For two months he will be working on a project aiming to actually measure the properties of electrical double layers.

Kinga Matula gave a talk on influence of nanomechanical stress on viability of cells during The Annual Microsymposium in the Institute of Physical Chemistry PAS (Main Auditorium, 10th of January 2017, 2.20 PM). Only few Researchers were asked to give oral presentation (eleven talks in 2017). Majority of projects conducted in IPC PAS was presented in form of posters (92 posters).

Kinga Matuła started a program of courses "Master and student" (26.11.16-14.01.17) for children as part of Children's University project which popularizes science.

 

During  the series of meetings she is talking about: work in microbiological laboratory, bacteria, virsues, nanoparticles. Student in age around 11 perform several experiments and as a final result they design new materials based on nanoparticles that possess unique antibacterial activity.

Three magnificent trainee joined the group under supervision of Kinga Matula, Lukasz Richter and Krzysztof Bielec. Lukasz Fura (Faculty of Physics, Warsaw University of Technology), Aneta Karpinska (Faculty of Chemistry, Warsaw University of Technology) and Karol Ulatowski (Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering, Warsaw University of Technology ). The internships were planned for three months but it seems that Lukasz and Aneta will do research in Institute of Physical Chemistry PAS longer and work on their master theses.

Krzysztof Bielec defended his MSc thesis at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow on Friday, 24th of June (with A grades) and on Monday, 27th of June, he became PhD student at the Insitute of Physical Chemistry PAS in Warsaw (again with A grade). Congrats!

 Kinga and Łukasz took part in the Science Picnic of Polish Radio and the Copernicus Science Centre. This is Europe’s largest outdoor event aimed to promote science.  Krzysztof Bielec gave a preview-presentation of his Master Thesis during PhD seminar at Institute of Physical Chemistry on 9th of December 2015. This was first time when undergrad presented during PhD seminars in IPC PAS.  Krzysztof marked the possible application of electric field in viral deactivation, as well as our future plans for improvement of phage-based biosensors.

Ilona Binkiewicz and Łukasz Richter successes during Polish School of Chemistry in Augustów, Poland

 

Ilona Binkiewicz won first prize for oral presentation and Łukasz Richter first prize for poster presentation during conference organized by Academic Students Society of Chemistry in Poland.

 

Both Ilona and Łukasz received also additional prizes awarded by a scientific committee composed of

dr E. Fornal, professor J. Młynarski, professor A. Proń and professor M. Palusiak.

Success at International Inventions Exhibition in Geneva

 

Set of patents and patent applications describing the process of preparation of Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) platform was awarded by Kielce University of Technology in "Student-Inventor" competition. This allows us to go to Geneva, were we were awarded silver medal for our inventions.

 

Team involed: Jan Paczesny, Krzysztof Sozański, Katarzyna Winkler, Witold Adamkiewicz, Igor Dzięcielewski, Andrzej Żywociński, Agnieszka Kamińska, Robert Hołyst.
